  1. Job Purpose

Manage the conservation and enhancement of Urban Heritage including its associated features, sites, areas, landscapes, standing and ruinous heritage architecture and places of cultural significance and monitor the documentation and protect the urban heritage.


  1. Key Duties and Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities


Contribute to the development of the vision, objectives, strategies, and action plans for the conservation of urban heritage sites based on assessments of the architectural and structural features, the urban heritage context, the surrounding landscapes, and other elements of cultural significance.


Assess the Urban Heritage significance of each asset in accordance with the Saudi Law of Antiquities and ascribe Category A, B or C and introduce more detailed assessment criteria if necessary


Review and evaluate Heritage Impact Assessments reports and propose recommendations, mitigation measures and monitor any intervention on the Urban Heritage assets in accordance with international best practices, if requested.


Lead the creation of policies for the documentation of the state of conservation of the urban heritage assets in AlUla County.


Identify key conservation issues requiring attention and prioritize plans to address those issues.


Participate and contribute in the process of urban heritage management plans and actions.


Lead the development of urban heritage conservation adaptive reuse guidelines for each tagged area in coordination with Planning and Design Department


Lead the management and monitoring of conservation works including the removal, addition, rearrangement and other interventions to the physical structure and layout of urban heritage structures and sites of heritage significance in accordance with international best practice.


Provide recommendations for the landscape and infrustructure design to ensure that these conform with the authenticity and integrity of the sites.


Review and evaluate development projects inside urban heritage sites boundarys and their buffer zones from an architectural heritage perspective, if requested

Managerial Responsibilities


Provide input to the sector’s strategy from the Department's or Section's perspective in line with RCU overall vision and mission.


Develop the Department's or Section's objectives, KPIs, annual operational plans and ensure plan execution is meeting the targets


Contribute to the preparation of the Department's or Section's annual budget and monitor the financial performance of the Department or Section.


Implement and execute the Department's or Section's policies and procedures. Oversee the overall performance of the section and ensure KPI’s are well developed, cascaded, communicated and monitored.


Ensure effective staffing, professional development and deployment of staff of the Department or Section in consultation with the Sector Executive or (Executive) Director.
